![]() ![]() Yes, it turned out to be a magical evening. For dessert, we shared a large slice of blueberry cobbler cheesecake and a banana split with vanilla ice cream, cashews, cherries, chocolate ganache and whipped cream. I settled for a Mother-of-all Burger with American cheese, bacon, fried egg and the house's secret sauce on a brioche bun. For a main course, my wife chose beer battered haddock with slaw, new potatoes and tartar sauce. We started with cornbread, meatballs and pretzel bites with honey mustard and cheddar dipping sauces. My wife and I engaged in a lot of people-watching while consuming an excellent dinner. Open from 4 to 10 on Wednesday and Thursday, 4 to 11 on Friday, 11 to 11 on Saturday and 11 to 10 on Sunday, SafeHouse blends a lot of fun with a lot of delicious food. Ontario Street, at Rush Street, one block west of the Magnificent Mile, it offers downtown nightlife, dining and dancing, with interactive spy gadgets, scavenger hunts, magic, spy-themed environs, secret doors and birthday parties for kids. ![]() But my wife and I certainly enjoyed our first-time visit to SafeHouse Chicago and we certainly will recommend the interactive restaurant that whole families will enjoy. It may not be the kind of entertaining and dining experience intended for 81-year-old retirees. We're unlikely to return to this location but some reviews state the concept is done well in other cities so might try another location in the future. The concept is interesting and this could be so fun but they are currently understaffed and the food has to improve. None of us at the table finished our meal and we ended up getting room service once we returned to our hotel. The food is possibly the biggest disappointment as it's no better than low end fast food. The food arrived before any drinks arrived. ![]() This was fine but lacked any personal touch and we were dining for my daughter's birthday. Once we were seated we had to wait for service and then when our waiter did arrive he was clearly flustered (the place is under staffed) and he tried to save time by explaining how the experience works to our table and another table. The intro could be a fun part of the experience but we were just confused as to what was going on. eating a salad and often correcting the trainee. When we arrived the person helping us into the restaurant was actively being trained by someone that was. It was unfortunately disappointing in almost every aspect. We were in Chicago for my daughter's 14th birthday and this place looked fun and something new and clever.
